Issue #151 Loop WP

It's all about timing ⏱️

In partnership with

Hi, friend. 👋

Welcome to Issue #151 of Loop WP!

Last week was slightly different from usual, as it was a milestone (in more ways than one) for Loop WP. Thank you to everyone for the best wishes.

This week, we were meant to discuss the result of March 27th’s vote on restricting WordPress release to one per year until the WPE lawsuit is over, but (at the time of writing), we still don’t know the outcome of that meeting. 😬

So instead, I’ll be sharing a WooCommerce plugin solution to a client's headache.

Let’s go! 👇

Your job called—it wants better business news

Welcome to Morning Brew—the world’s most engaging business newsletter. Seriously, we mean it.

Morning Brew’s daily email keeps professionals informed on the business news that matters, but with a twist—think jokes, pop culture, quick writeups, and anything that makes traditionally dull news actually enjoyable.

It’s 100% free—so why not give it a shot? And if you decide you’d rather stick with dry, long-winded business news, you can always unsubscribe.

Scheduled Products for WooCommerce

It’s been a while since we talked about WooCommerce…seven weeks in fact, when we talked about the Disable Cart Fragments plugin.

This week, we look at another plugin, WPC Product Timer for WooCommerce from WP Clever.

⏳ A client required scheduling a WooCommerce to be published (and publicly available) at a specific time.

📧 The product was part of an email growth campaign with newsletter subscribers getting early access for 48 hours before the product was released to the general public.

A stylised animation-inspired 3D illustration of a young man with messy brown hair and glasses, sitting at a colorful, quirky office desk. He looks frustrated, gripping his hair while staring at a laptop showing a product scheduling interface. The office is bright and playful, decorated with fun posters, plants, and gadgets

The Problem

🫠 WooCommerce Products can't be scheduled for publication by default.

Well, they can, but they can be hit and miss (like scheduling a Post in WordPress) the schedule can go wrong for many reasons.

🤔 There are ways to do this without a plugin, such as using a cron job and a custom PHP function using WordPress scheduled events. However, the solution needed to be client-friendly.

With my client being on holiday, this is not a screen they would want to see instead of a “published” product.

Screenshot of a product management interface showing a scheduled product titled "Hiking shoes." The product is in stock, priced at £104.99, categorized under "Shoes," and marked with a "Missed schedule" alert in red text, dated 2025/03/31 at 19:30

😱 Once that schedule is missed, that product will never get published, which would be a nightmare for this client.

😩 Aside from potential scheduling issues, WooCommerce is very limited in what you can schedule, such as changing product visibility.

So we needed a solution that offered much more than what WooCommerce does by default.

Close, but Not Quite

🚨 This product was not “on sale”, which makes it slightly trickier as there are many plugins to schedule “on-sale” products out there, but not so many options for products at regular price.

The Solution

In this case, friend, the solution was WPC Product Timer for WooCommerce from WP Clever.

This plugin suited the client perfectly and it's free (although there is also a premium version).

The plugin offers many options, and we chose the Catalogue Visibility option to change the product from “Hidden” to “Visible” after a set date and time.

Screenshot of the WooCommerce product data settings panel for a variable product, showing the "Timer" tab selected. A "Set visible" action is configured to trigger after the date and time March 1st, 2022 at 11:49 AM. A calendar and time picker are open below the input field

🧠 (If you’re unfamiliar with product and catalog visibility, you can learn more in this specific WooCommerce documentation.)

I’ve not tested the plugin's premium version as the free version was more than enough in this case.

⭐️ With a 4.8 out of 5 stars plugin, I’m not the only person who has found WPC Product Timer for WooCommerce useful.

If you want more information on some of the premium features and a demo video of what the plugin can do, check out this tutorial. 👇

Happy scheduling! 🎉

Before You Go

⏭️ Maybe we will discuss the vote’s result in next week’s newsletter.

Who knows. 🤣

There haven’t been any updates to this year’s roadmap (at the time of writing), with two major releases still scheduled after WordPress 6.8 (due April 15th, 2025).

Regardless of what Matt does, I’ll be here with another newsletter. 🎉

See you next week! 😀
