Disable Cart Fragments

The Problem

⚡️ When working with WooCommerce clients, one of the most significant performance issues is "cart fragments" or "mini-cart".

You could remove the mini-cart from the website or only load it on particular pages.

🤔 For many websites and experiences, users expect (a constantly present mini-cart), making removing the mini-cart impossible.

So what do we do?

The Solution(s)

Custom Function

You could have used some custom functions to help:

• Web Nots - Fix Slow Page Loading with WooCommerce wc-ajax=get_refreshed_fragments

(Business Bloomer has been a go-to resource for me for years.)

AI Solution

⚡️ Then, AI solutions like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and WP Turbo could help you code your solution.

Of course, you must be careful with the code these solutions generate and test thoroughly.

For example, this looks great, but it doesn’t work correctly, and it tries to do too much.

A Plugin Solution - Disable Cart Fragments

Disable Cart Fragments is a lightweight plugin which effectively speeds up your WooCommerce website by disabling the cart fragments script.

⚡️ It also enqueues the script back when the cart is not empty anymore, so it only works while the cart is empty.

The plugin has no settings. You can install it and forget it.

Test Test Test

Remember, whichever solution you choose, test on a staging website first and check that your live website works as it should once you implement it.

💡 For example, if you use Elementor’s mini-cart, there is a conflict that initially shows a blank cart.

🚀 Disable Cart Fragments allows the best of both worlds - You can keep using a caching plugin and update the cart totals when the cart is not empty.

(The plugin hasn’t been updated in a couple of years, but it still works, and it doesn't appear in WP Scan or Patchstack’s databases.)
